Life and Death at Caesarea Maritima: Using Osteobiography to Create Narrative,

Amy Michael, Samantha Blatt, Jack Biggs, University of New Hampshire.

In this presentation, we will describe the site of Caesarea Maritima and provide a brief history of archaeological excavations. The majority of the presentation will focus on the bioarchaeological investigations of health, disease, and trauma as manifested in the skeletal remains of individuals at the site. In particular, we discuss the burial of Ind. 4, a sub-adult, who received a unique burial treatment. Mortuary behavior and religion will also be explored in the presentation of this continuously occupied site centered at the nexus of trade routes.
