Plymouth
State University is Going to Turkey!
Have
you ever wanted to walk in the footsteps of Heinrich Schliemann? Enter
King Midas’ Tomb? Visit the oldest city in the world? Plymouth State University,
in conjunction with Globus Tours, is about to lead a customized study
tour to Turkey between May 27 and June 7, 2010. This will be a great archeological
adventure, featuring the Neolithic excavation site of Catalhoyuk, the
ancient Greek holy city of Priene (one of the most intact Greek cities
in the world), Gordion (site of King Midas’ Tomb), the ruins of Troy,
Ephesus, Hierapolis, Aphrodisias, as well as the modern cities of Istanbul,
Izmir, Kusadasi, Konya, Ankara, Bursa, and the volcanic plateau of Cappadocia
(famed for its troglodyte village of Avcilar and its underground city).
The trip will be led
by Plymouth State University professors Dr. David Starbuck and Dr. Filiz
Otucu. Twenty intrepid travelers have signed up to go, and this will hopefully
be the first of many annual archeological tours that Plymouth State will
lead to the “great archeological sites of the world.” For more information
on the trip, contat David Starbuck at Rounds Hall M104, Plymouth State
University (603) 535-3076 or by email: dstarbuck@mail.plymouth.edu
