Open Lab at John Milner Associates, Inc.
Every Thursday at 2:00pm – 4:00pm

JMA, a contract archaeology firm, will provide a tour of their laboratory and insight into the world of contract archaeology. Archaeologists from Massachusetts and New Hampshire will be available to answer any questions, and visitors are encouraged to bring in artifacts of their own. New Hampshire Fall Festival

Celebrate harvest time at Strawbery Banke’s 2nd annual NH Fall Festival! View ongoing archaeological excavations at the Chase House and artifacts at the laboratory. Experience a traditional New England country fair with demonstrations from craftspeople, historic crafts and industries exhibits, presentations about heirloom seeds, canning and food preservation, fiber arts, activities in the Children’s Garden, farm animals, and much, much more! Archaeology Fair, Boston Science Museum

Cost: $20 Adult, $18 Senior, $17 Children (11 and under); members free. Sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America and the Museum of Science, Boston. Archaeologists from around New England will gather to share information and experience hands-on activities about current research and programs. "Beneath the Streets of Portsmouth: The Portsmouth African Burial Ground”

Seacoast African American Cultural Center (formerly the Portsmouth Public Library, 10 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH.
Sponsored by the Seacoast African Cultural Center (SAACC), a presentation “Beneath the Streets of Portsmouth: The Portsmouth African Burial Ground” will be given by Independent Archaeological Consulting, LLC (IAC). The presentation is on the archaeological excavations at the Portsmouth African Burial Ground, rediscovered in October 2003 by IAC. Archaeologists encountered 13 graves and recovered the remains of eight African-Americans from beneath a city street. The location, long rumored to have been the site of the “Negro Burial Ground,” may have been in use as early as 1705 until the 1790s in what was then the outskirts of town. New Hampshire Archaeological Society Meeting

Presentations will be made by: Terry Fifield, White Mt. Forest Archaeologist; Thomas Mailhot, UMass Boston and Project Archaeologist from JMA; Nathan Hamilton, PhD, Professor at UMaine Gorham; and TBA.
